14% Jump in MTNL Share Prices, Should You Buy or Sell? Check What Experts Recommend

Today, on March 13th 2025, MTNL- Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. experienced a sudden spike of 14% since the opening bell. The abrupt surge followed MTNL’s statements in the parliament on Wednesday. Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar shared MTNL’s data in the Lok Sabha. According to that data, MTNL has earned Rs 2,134.61 crore up to January 2025 from monetizing lands and buildings.

“BSNL and MTNL are monetizing only those land and building assets which are not required for their own use in the foreseeable future. Also its those properties which it has the rights to transfer the ownership,” said Sekhar.

Today, MTNL’s shares opened to the market at Rs. 46.30 and are currently up by 13.4% compared to the previous session’s close of 43.24.  

MTNL Share Price in Today’s Market

At 10:15 a.m., MTNL traded their shares for the price of Rs 49.40, nearly 6.4% higher than the opening rate. And 13.2% higher than its previous close. According to the reports and estimates on Money Control, the current market capitalization shows Rs 3,103 cores; the UC Limit is Rs 51.88, and the LC Limit is Rs 34.59.

Company Financials

MTNL is a state-owned telephone company. It reported the third quarter financials of the fiscal year 2024-25 on February 14th. According to the data, MTNL’s net loss narrowed slightly to Rs. 836.07 crore, compared to a net loss of Rs. 839.03 crore in the third quarter of the previous year. The company saw a decline of 11.53% in revenue from operations. The reported revenues are Rs. 170.07 crore.

  • In February 2025, the Government of India announced an approximately Rs. 6,000 crore aid to enhance the 4G network expansion of both BSNL and MTNL.
  • From 2019 till January 2025, MTNL generated Rs. 258.25 crores through the monetization of assets, including towers and fiber infrastructure.
  • In March 2025, the government clarified that BSNL and MTNL would not be privatized.
