Bangladesh suffered a shocking collapse in their warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI in Canberra. The visiting team was bowled out for just 54 runs in their second innings. This was their first tour of Australia in 23 years.
Bangladesh Post 263 in First Innings
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first. They managed to score 263 runs in their first innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a brilliant knock of 109 runs while batting at number seven. Only two other batsmen managed to cross the 20-run mark in the innings.
Cricket Australia XI Take Commanding Lead
Cricket Australia XI responded strongly by scoring 355 runs in their first innings. Teague Wylie led the charge with a superb 130 runs. Captain Curtis Patterson contributed 53 runs while wicketkeeper-batsman Jake Doran added 76 runs. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with four wickets.
Second Innings Collapse
Bangladesh’s second innings turned into a nightmare. The entire team was bundled out for just 54 runs in 22 overs. Campbell Thompson was the destroyer-in-chief for the home side. The right-arm bowler picked up eight wickets while conceding just 25 runs in 11 overs.
Thompson Yet to Make Australia Debut
Campbell Thompson has not yet made his debut for Australia in any format of the game. His stunning performance in this warm-up match will certainly put him in contention for higher honors. Bangladesh will now face the formidable trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood in the main Test matches. If the warm-up performance is any indication, Bangladesh will need to significantly improve their batting against the pace attack.
The Test series between Australia and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin later this month. Bangladesh will hope to put this collapse behind them and put up a better showing in the main matches.
