Opposition Unity Call
Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of trying to capture West Bengal through questionable voter list revisions. She said her party is ready to fight back and take Delhi if needed. The TMC chief has reached out to former rivals for opposition unity. She announced that the INDIA alliance will meet in Delhi soon to plan its strategy. At a rally in Serampore, she urged opposition parties to unite. She told them to unite against the Election Commissioner’s actions. Banerjee specifically asked Rahul Gandhi to join efforts for a fair electoral process.
Allegations Against Election Commissioner
Banerjee claimed that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar intentionally removed 9.3 million names from West Bengal’s voter list under the Special Summary Revision. She alleged that the Trinamool Congress first questioned officer Seema Khanna’s role. She said the officer’s involvement in the process was suspicious. The TMC chief said all records were provided to the commission. However, names were deleted one by one from the voter list. She warned that Kumar had captured Bengal and would now target Delhi.
Continued Agitation
Banerjee stated her party would catch others involved in wrongdoing, just as they detained Kumar. She declared that Kumar must go and the agitation would continue until he leaves. The TMC chief said she would support any political party opposing the Special Summary Revision. She added that she would support any party regardless of its political affiliation. Criticizing law enforcement agencies, she said activists should not fear arrest and should stay united. She quoted the words “Don’t be afraid” to the gathered supporters. She also said “Be ready for arrest, speak openly and stay united” to the crowd. She questioned the arrest of Congress candidate Milan Pradhan in Nandigram before the by-election. She asked the authorities why he was detained before the by-election. She said she too had participated in land movements for justice.
