India’s growing creator economy faces persistent hurdles in locating and booking suitable hourly spaces for shoots, workshops and small events. Delhi NCR-based startup Spare Space aims to streamline discovery, booking and payments by offering a tech-enabled marketplace that lists vetted studios and venues with real-time availability and transparent hourly pricing.
Bringing structure to a fragmented market
Booking a studio or event space in India typically involves lengthy message threads, time-consuming negotiations and uncertain confirmation. Real-time availability and standardised pricing are rarely available, forcing creators to rely on scattered searches and phone calls.
Spare Space centralises discovery, booking, payment and management on one platform. Users can filter listings by location, capacity, amenities and activity type, compare hourly rates, view availability calendars and receive instant confirmations. The product is designed to reduce friction for photographers, filmmakers, content creators, trainers and small event organisers.
The platform targets a range of use cases—photoshoots, brand campaigns, auditions, rehearsals, workshops and intimate indoor events—helping match fluctuating creator demand with underutilised venue inventory.
Empowering hosts and professionalising inventory
Space owners benefit from increased visibility and better monetisation of idle hours. Spare Space provides a host dashboard to manage availability, set variable hourly pricing and track bookings. Upfront payment processing reduces the risk of last-minute cancellations and payment disputes.
To build trust, the platform includes identity verification and review systems for both hosts and users. These features aim to improve accountability and help standardise expectations across a traditionally informal market.
Founder’s background and operational approach
Founder Khayat Chakerverty, who has more than five years’ experience in creative production across India and abroad, developed the concept after repeatedly encountering the logistical challenges of booking spaces. His experience in running hosted experiences informed the marketplace and operational design.
Early traction and roadmap
Spare Space has listed over 140 live venues across Delhi NCR and has facilitated bookings for professional projects and brand shoots. The startup intends to consolidate its presence in the Delhi NCR market before expanding to other major hubs such as Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Longer term, the company envisions evolving into a broader creative-infrastructure ecosystem. Planned additions include equipment rentals, access to freelance professionals and integrated services to support creators through end-to-end production workflows.
As India’s digital content and independent creative sectors expand, curated platforms that provide transparency, real-time availability and secure payments can help formalise the market for hourly creative spaces and unlock new earning opportunities for both creators and venue owners.
