Meesho has launched Vaani, a generative AI-powered voice assistant designed to simplify online shopping for customers across India, particularly those in Tier II and Tier III cities who find traditional app navigation challenging. The feature aims to make product discovery and purchase more conversational and accessible.
Conversational shopping experience
Vaani adds a voice-driven layer to the Meesho app, allowing users to speak their requirements instead of typing search queries. The assistant interprets natural language, enabling shoppers to ask questions, refine filters, and explore options through dialogue rather than manual navigation.
This voice-first approach targets users who are more comfortable speaking than typing, helping bridge the experiential gap between offline and online retail and reducing friction for first-time or less tech-savvy shoppers.
End-to-end AI assistance
Unlike basic voice search, Vaani supports the full shopping journey. It assists with product discovery, surfaces specifications and reviews, offers personalised recommendations, and guides users through checkout and order confirmation.
The system can manage multi-step conversations, maintain context across interactions, and deliver responses that feel more personalised and human-like, improving the overall shopping flow and decision-making process.
Built for India’s linguistic diversity
Meesho says Vaani is built on an advanced AI architecture that prioritises low-latency responses and efficient processing. The assistant is trained to recognise regional language nuances to better serve India’s diverse consumer base.
At launch, Vaani supports English and Hindi, with plans to add additional regional languages to expand reach and inclusivity across different states and user groups.
Early traction and measurable impact
Within weeks of rollout, Vaani attracted over a million users, according to Meesho. The company reports higher conversion rates among users engaging with the assistant, alongside reductions in returns and cancellations—signals that voice guidance is improving purchase confidence and satisfaction.
Implications for e-commerce growth
By lowering barriers to digital shopping through conversational interaction, Meesho aims to onboard millions of new users to the online commerce ecosystem. As AI capabilities evolve, voice assistants like Vaani may play a significant role in making e-commerce more accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly across India.
