Indian stock markets saw a major reshuffling among the top 10 most valuable companies last week. Four firms added a combined Rs 1.43 lakh crore in market capitalization, while six others lost nearly Rs 1.23 lakh crore. State Bank of India emerged as the biggest winner with a stellar Rs 63,922 crore weekly gain.
BSE Sensex and Nifty End Week in Green
Both benchmark indices closed the week with marginal gains. The BSE Sensex rose 404.53 points or 0.51 percent, while the NSE Nifty climbed 187.05 points or 0.76 percent. Markets faced volatility through the week due to RBI monetary policy cues, global geopolitical developments, and the new Closing Auction Session framework for F&O stocks.
SBI Jumps to Fifth Most Valuable Company
SBI added Rs 63,922.03 crore to its market cap, taking it to Rs 10,11,721.84 crore. The public sector bank is now India’s fifth most valuable company. Strong buying interest in SBI shares drove the surge, making it the top gainer among the country’s 10 largest firms by market value.
Reliance, TCS and L&T Also Post Gains
Reliance Industries remained the country’s most valuable company with its market cap rising Rs 32,816.40 crore to Rs 18,01,925.19 crore. Tata Consultancy Services added Rs 31,875.35 crore to reach Rs 8,87,770.13 crore. Larsen & Toubro gained Rs 14,637.76 crore, taking its market cap to Rs 5,56,482.45 crore.
LIC, Bajaj Finance and HDFC Bank Among Top Losers
Life Insurance Corporation of India suffered the biggest loss. Its market cap fell Rs 40,543.23 crore to Rs 4,96,891.82 crore. Bajaj Finance dropped Rs 37,168.96 crore to Rs 6,73,648.55 crore. HDFC Bank lost Rs 24,183.16 crore, bringing its valuation to Rs 11,27,967.47 crore. ICICI Bank declined Rs 9,507.67 crore to Rs 10,20,370.63 crore, while Bharti Airtel shed Rs 7,581.65 crore to Rs 12,22,423.98 crore. Hindustan Unilever slipped Rs 4,793.16 crore to Rs 4,88,808.97 crore.
Market Cap Ranking Sees Major Shift
Reliance Industries holds the top position in market valuation. It is followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, L&T, LIC, and HUL. The gap between gainers and losers shows that index movements alone do not tell the full story. Individual stock performance varied widely across sectors last week.
