Slice has appointed Sreedevi Pillai, a veteran banker with over three decades of experience, as an Independent Non‑Executive Director to strengthen governance and risk oversight as the fintech-turned-bank expands its digital banking operations across India.
Experienced risk professional joins Slice board
Pillai spent the bulk of her career at State Bank of India (SBI), where she held senior leadership roles including Chief General Manager for Risk Management. In that capacity she led work on enterprise risk frameworks, fraud monitoring and operational risk mitigation, and helped strengthen compliance and internal controls across the bank’s businesses.

Slice’s management said Pillai’s deep knowledge of banking regulation and risk oversight will aid the company as it transitions from fintech to a regulated banking entity. The appointment reflects a broader industry trend: digital-first financial firms increasingly seek seasoned banking professionals on their boards to meet regulatory expectations and manage systemic and operational risks.

Founded in 2016 by Rajan Bajaj, Slice began as a fintech offering credit and payments targeted at young consumers. The company accelerated its transformation after merging with North East Small Finance Bank in 2024, enabling it to operate as a technology-driven small finance bank.
With the addition of Pillai to its board, Slice aims to reinforce its leadership and governance as it builds a modern, technology-led banking platform focused on accessible digital services across India.
