Vikra Ocean Tech Secures $1 Million to Accelerate Robotics Expansion

Chennai-based Vikra Ocean Tech has secured $1 million (about ₹9.4 crore) in seed funding led by Finvolve and India Accelerator to scale manufacturing and accelerate sales, with a sharper push into defence and public sector opportunities. The capital will support production capacity, field deployments, and commercial partnerships across key marine and security applications.

Deep-tech focus on indigenous underwater robotics

Founded in 2018 by Rajeuv Govindan and Rajagurunathan Krishnasamy, Vikra Ocean Tech develops autonomous and remotely operated systems for underwater and marine use. The company’s core platform enables multiple robots to operate collaboratively through a unified command-and-control interface, improving mission efficiency in defence, hydrographic surveys, disaster response, and industrial inspections.

The startup’s indigenisation strategy targets high-cost imports by offering locally engineered solutions tailored to Indian conditions. It has received two iDEX grants from the Indian Army and Indian Coast Guard, signalling validation from defence users. As of March 2025, the company reported revenue of ₹78.5 lakh, reflecting early commercial traction.

Product suite for underwater, surface, and amphibious missions

Vikra Ocean Tech’s portfolio spans multiple mission profiles. ROVITO and AQUAROX are compact underwater remotely operated vehicles capable of live video capture and data acquisition for inspection and survey tasks. On the surface, WAVEBOT and HYDRONOX are unmanned surface vehicles designed for monitoring water bodies and coastal zones.

KOORMA, an amphibious platform, operates across land–water interfaces, supporting defence reconnaissance and exploration. The company also offers LANDROX, a ground robot for inspection and surveillance in challenging terrains. Complementary systems include U-CAM and U-LIGHTS for enhanced visibility in low-light and deep-water environments, alongside subsea communication solutions that maintain diver-to-surface connectivity.

Commercial roadmap and sector priorities

With fresh capital, the startup plans to expand manufacturing, standardise production workflows, and grow annuity revenue through after-sales service, maintenance, and mission support. Priority segments include defence, coastal security, port and inland waterways management, and public sector utilities where demand for reliable, cost-effective marine robotics is rising.

Competitive landscape

Vikra Ocean Tech operates in a growing domestic marine-tech ecosystem alongside players such as Planys Technologies, EyeROV, Sagar Defence Engineering, and Coratia Technologies. The company is betting on affordability, modular design, and multi-robot interoperability to differentiate in defence and infrastructure-led use cases.
