Skye Air Mobility Raises $9 Million to Expand Hyperlocal Drone Delivery Network in India

Drone logistics startup Skye Air Mobility has raised $9 million in a Series B round led by IAN Alpha Fund, the venture capital arm of the Indian Angel Network Group, to scale hyperlocal drone delivery operations and expand across major Indian cities. The investment will boost fleet expansion, technology development and urban airspace management capabilities.

Funding details and use of proceeds

The $9 million round includes a first tranche of $4 million already secured, with a second tranche of $5 million expected to close subsequently. Other participants include AVNM Ventures, Faad Capital, Bajaj Capital and several angel investors. Skye plans to use the funds to scale operations, strengthen its technology infrastructure and broaden its drone delivery network.

Business model and technology

Founded in 2019 by Ankit Kumar, Skye Air Mobility builds a technology-driven platform for autonomous, last-mile drone logistics. Its offerings combine autonomous delivery drones with proprietary airspace management tools—marketed as Skye UTM—to coordinate multiple drones, optimise routes and ensure safe operations in congested urban environments.

Operational capabilities

The company says its drones can carry payloads up to 10 kg and are deployed across sectors including e-commerce, quick commerce, healthcare and industrial supply chains. Skye reports having completed more than 3.6 million drone deliveries to date, signalling growing commercial traction for drone-enabled logistics in India.

Planned expansion

With the fresh capital, Skye intends to extend services beyond the Delhi-NCR market to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata over the next 18 months. The firm will increase its fleet size and enhance operational capabilities to meet rising demand from businesses seeking faster, cost-efficient last-mile solutions.

Context and market outlook

India’s rapid e-commerce growth and rising consumer expectations for faster deliveries have increased interest in drone logistics as a scalable last-mile alternative. Regulatory developments around unmanned traffic management and urban airspace rules will be critical for widespread adoption. Skye aims to leverage its technology and funding to position itself as a leading drone-delivery platform in this evolving market.
