Bengaluru-based Simple Energy is entering India’s family-format electric scooter race with the Simple Wave. The new e-scooter will launch on September 2 this year. It is designed to take on the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and Ather Rizta.

Simple Wave to Take on Chetak, iQube and Rizta

Simple Energy already sells the Simple One, Simple OneS and Simple Ultra in India. These models offer up to 400 km range on a single charge. The Wave will sit below the flagship One in the company’s lineup.

The scooter will carry an affordable price tag to win buyers in this high-volume segment. Other rivals include the TVS Orbit and the Hero Vida VX2. IP filings earlier suggested the name Arrive, but the company has locked the Simple Wave name.

Flat Floor Design and Feature-Loaded Cabin

Spy shots show a conventional family scooter design with a flat floor board. The scooter gets a long seat, comfortable suspension and a single-piece grab rail. Headlamps sit on the apron instead of the handlebar cowl.

The Wave may feature a 7-inch touchscreen instrument cluster. Smartphone connectivity, navigation, music control and notifications could be included. Hill assist, reverse gear, cruise control and keyless ignition may also be offered.

190 km Range From 3.7 kWh Battery

The Wave could share its basic architecture with the Simple One. It may use the same chassis with family-focused tweaks. The powertrain is likely to come from the Simple OneS, the base version of the One family.

The Simple OneS packs a 3.7 kWh battery with a 190 km range. It powers a 6.4 kW peak motor with a top speed of 90 km/h. More details will be revealed at the September 2 launch event.
