Kieron Pollard has reclaimed his place as the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket history after smashing a blistering 65 off 26 balls in the Caribbean Premier League. The West Indian veteran surpassed England’s Jos Buttler during Trinbago Knight Riders’ chase against Saint Lucia Kings on Thursday.
Pollard’s Record-Breaking Knock
Pollard needed just 35 runs to overtake Buttler when he walked out to bat at number six. He reached the milestone in style, smashing six fours and five sixes at a staggering strike rate of 250. His innings helped Trinbago chase a target of 212 runs in a high-scoring CPL encounter.
The Numbers Behind the Record
Pollard now has 14,921 runs from 666 innings across 749 T20 matches. He is on the verge of becoming the first batter in history to reach 15,000 T20 runs. Trinbago Knight Riders play Barbados next on Friday, and Pollard needs just 79 more runs to achieve that historic milestone.
Buttler’s Brief Reign at the Top
Jos Buttler had briefly surpassed Pollard in August 2026 while playing for Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred. The England star now has 14,833 runs from 522 matches, including nine centuries and 106 half-centuries. His 106 fifties are the most by any player in T20 history.
Elite Club of 14,000 Runs
Buttler is one of only six cricketers to cross the 14,000-run mark in T20 cricket. The elite list includes Pollard, Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, David Warner and Virat Kohli. Buttler made his T20 debut in 2009 and was a key member of England’s T20 World Cup winning squad in 2022.
