Novorbis Raises ₹13.35 Crore to Scale Clean Air Technology

Indore-based cleantech startup NovorbisItus Pvt. Ltd. has raised ₹13.35 crore in a seed round led by Rainmatter, the climate and fintech initiative backed by Zerodha, with participation from Rockstud Capital. The company plans to scale its emission-control technologies across India and deepen its presence in heavy industry.

Technology and Products

Founded in 2019 by a team of college students, Novorbis develops solutions to curb air pollution at source. Its flagship product, the CarbonFree RECD, is a retrofit device for diesel generator (DG) sets that the company says cuts particulate and gaseous emissions by over 90%.

The RECD is a filter-less system built on Novorbis’s EPSD technology, which uses a combination of electrical and photonic processes to capture and neutralise pollutants. The absence of consumable filters reduces maintenance needs and mitigates clogging risks commonly associated with conventional after-treatment systems.

Beyond DG applications, Novorbis offers CarbonFree CAPS for crematorium emission control and markets Aura-branded indoor air purifiers for residential and commercial spaces.

Traction, Clients, and Revenue

Novorbis reported revenue of ₹9.1 crore in FY25 and employs about 50–60 people. Its client roster includes Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the Indian Army, Google, and Greaves, indicating adoption across infrastructure, defence, technology, and engineering sectors.

Use of Funds and Expansion Plans

The fresh capital will be directed towards manufacturing scale-up, nationwide deployments, and entry into high-emission industrial segments such as steel plants, boilers, and process industries. The startup is also advancing R&D in carbon capture and utilisation, exploring conversion of captured pollutants into value-added products, including ink and paint.

Sector Context

India’s push for cleaner air—reflected in initiatives such as the National Clean Air Programme and stricter emission norms for DG sets and industrial sources—has accelerated demand for retrofit and end-of-pipe solutions. Seed-stage backing from climate-focused investors like Rainmatter signals growing confidence in indigenous technologies that can deliver measurable reductions in urban and industrial pollution while keeping operating costs manageable.
