TVS Motor Company has achieved a historic milestone by overtaking Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India to become the country’s largest scooter manufacturer for the first time in July 2026. The company sold 2,56,675 scooters during the month, driven by strong demand for its electric portfolio including the iQube. Honda slipped to second place with 2,33,337 units, marking a sharp 12 percent decline from last year.
TVS Sales Jump 40 Percent, Honda Falls 12 Percent
TVS sold 2,56,675 scooters in July 2026, up from 1,83,607 units in July 2025. This represents a growth of 73,068 units or 40 percent year-on-year. In contrast, Honda’s sales dropped from 2,65,587 units to 2,33,337 units, a decline of 32,250 units or about 12 percent. The electric scooter iQube played a major role in TVS’s strong performance.
Market Share Shift: TVS at 32 Percent, Honda Below 30 Percent
TVS’s market share in the scooter segment rose from 28.46 percent in July 2025 to 32.15 percent in July 2026. Honda’s share fell sharply from 41.17 percent to 29.23 percent. This is the first time Honda has slipped below the 30 percent mark in the Indian scooter market. The total scooter market in India grew 24 percent to 7,98,190 units in July 2026 from 6,45,022 units last year.
Suzuki, Hero and Bajaj Also Post Strong Gains
Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 1,20,998 scooters in July 2026, up 28 percent from 94,296 units last year, securing third place with 15.15 percent market share. Hero MotoCorp sold 61,347 units, up 33 percent from 45,989 units. Bajaj Auto delivered the highest growth rate with scooter sales surging 301 percent to 48,684 units from 12,134 units, driven by strong demand for the Chetak electric portfolio. Yamaha sold 36,783 units, up 53 percent from 24,110 units.
Electric Scooter Companies Shine in July
Ather Energy sold 31,044 electric scooters in July 2026, more than doubling its sales from 15,096 units last year with 106 percent growth. River Mobility sold 6,039 units, up 226 percent from 1,853 units, driven by its Indie electric scooter. Piaggio Vehicles sold 3,283 units, up from 2,350 units. The overall momentum in India’s scooter market remains strong with all major players showing year-on-year growth.
