Nothing has officially announced Nothing OS 5.0, its latest operating system built on Android 17. The new software delivers more than 80 new features and improvements across design, personalization, performance, connectivity, and artificial intelligence. The open beta testing begins on August 26, 2026, starting with the Nothing Phone (3).

Redesigned Interface and Adaptive Color System

The user interface now offers a cleaner layered look with transparent widgets and a new search bar on the home screen. Nothing has introduced an Adaptive Color System that automatically changes app icons, widgets, and Quick Settings colors based on the user’s wallpaper. The entire system uses the Geist Typeface for a unified appearance.

New Lock Screen Clocks and Smart Widgets

Nothing OS 5.0 adds two new lock screen clock faces named Gooey and Micrographics. Gooey uses fluid shapes for a unique visual experience while Micrographics shows date, weather, and meeting info in one place. Two new widgets debut as well. The Collector Widget lets users save favorite items from their camera or gallery. The Away Time Widget tracks how long users stay away from their phone to support digital wellbeing.

Glyph Interface Upgrades and Performance Boost

The signature Glyph Interface gets a dedicated app to manage lighting, sounds, and schedules. A new Glyph Timer Widget displays timer status through the rear panel lights. Touch response and background app retention have been improved significantly. An on-device AI learns app usage patterns to launch frequently used apps faster. The camera can now hold QR codes fixed on screen so users can tap without rescanning.

Essential AI Tools and Cross-Platform Quick Share

Essential Voice has been made faster and more accurate, understanding whether to format speech as paragraphs or lists. The Ear (3) SuperMic feature directly captures audio for meetings and notes without extra steps. Cross-platform Quick Share uses QR codes to transfer files between iPhones and Android devices without any additional app.

Nothing OS 5.0 open beta starts August 26, 2026 for the Nothing Phone (3) users first. The company will expand the rollout to other Nothing devices in the coming months.
