Apple has appointed John Ternus as its new chief executive officer, handing him an annual salary package of approximately 58 million dollars – roughly Rs 551 crore. The 51-year-old mechanical engineer takes over from Tim Cook, who led the company for 15 years and now moves to the role of executive chairman. Ternus brings over two decades of Apple experience to the top job, rising through the ranks from product design to the corner office.

The Salary Breakdown

According to documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ternus receives his compensation in three parts. The largest component is a stock award worth about 55 million dollars (Rs 522 crore), with 75 percent tied directly to Apple’s performance. This structure aligns the CEO’s rewards with the company’s continued growth.

Tim Cook’s New Role

Tim Cook, who transformed Apple into a three-trillion-dollar giant during his tenure, becomes executive chairman. He will receive an annual package of roughly 47 million dollars, or approximately Rs 446 crore, in his new position. Cook’s leadership reshaped Apple into the world’s most valuable technology company.

From Engineering Student to CEO

John Ternus grew up in California and showed academic promise from an early age. He enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1997. After graduation, he began his career as an engineer at Virtual Research Systems before joining Apple in 2001.

Ternus started at Apple’s product design team and rose steadily through the ranks. He became vice president of hardware engineering in 2013 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2021. Over the years, he led engineering teams behind iconic products such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. His journey from engineer to CEO of the world’s largest company serves as a powerful lesson – the right education, skills, and persistence can take anyone to the top.
