A young engineer who grew up in a slum near a drain has landed a Rs 33 lakh per year job at PhonePe after scoring 96 percentile in JEE. His inspiring journey from poverty to a top tech company has gone viral on Reddit and social media.
Childhood Spent in Poverty Near a Drain
The engineer shared his story on Reddit to motivate others facing hardship. He grew up in an extremely poor family with his home located next to a drain. During monsoon the family endured flood-like conditions. His parents worked very hard but earned low wages compared to their effort.
JEE Success and College Admission Against All Odds
Pursuing engineering was not easy in such circumstances. With help from relatives a loan and an EWS scholarship he secured admission in a state-level engineering college. He scored an impressive 96 percentile in JEE despite limited resources. However his family’s financial situation prevented him from joining his preferred colleges.
First Year CGPA of 9.63 and Skill Building
In college he faced the challenge of poverty versus privilege. Many classmates came from financially strong backgrounds. They ate out regularly spoke fluent English and went on weekend trips. He turned this into motivation instead of weakness. He achieved a stellar 9.63 CGPA in his first year and maintained it throughout graduation.
Good marks were not enough for him. He realised his DSA and development skills were weak after his first hackathon. That experience became a turning point. He worked on his shortcomings and went on to win four hackathons.
Landing the PhonePe Job at Rs 33 Lakh CTC
His initial goal was simply to get a good campus placement. But consistent hard work took him much further. He received a job offer from PhonePe with a Rs 33 lakh CTC package. He made it clear he was not sharing his story to show off. He wanted to give hope to someone going through a difficult phase. For him this was a big step toward changing his family’s future.
