RailTel Corporation shares jumped 4 percent on Friday, August 21. The rally came after the railway PSU bagged a fresh work order worth Rs 164 crore. The company will set up an MPLS VPN network at Western Coalfields under the contract. Investors cheered the order as RailTel continues to win large telecom projects.
Rs 164 Crore Work Order Details
The work order covers the MPLS VPN setup at Western Coalfields. MPLS VPN is a secure telecom network that connects multiple office locations. The project will run on a 60-month rental basis. The contract period ends in September 2031. Earlier, RailTel won an EPFO order worth Rs 166.80 crore. This month the company also secured a Rs 63 crore order at Deendayal Port.

The stock opened at Rs 287.90 on the BSE. It touched an intraday high of Rs 291.70 during trading. The 52-week high stands at Rs 413.10. The 52-week low level is Rs 244.95. RailTel’s market cap is Rs 9,196 crore. The sharp move came on strong buying interest in the counter.

Net profit in the June quarter was Rs 66 crore. It stayed flat on a year-on-year basis. March quarter revenue stood at Rs 893.20 crore. That was 20.10 percent higher year on year. A year ago, the same quarter recorded Rs 743.80 crore revenue. The company continues to post steady operational numbers.
Dividend and Long-Term Gains
Shares traded ex-dividend on August 13. The company paid Rs 1.25 per share dividend then. It had earlier paid Rs 1 per share in March 2026. The stock fell 10 percent in the last three months. It is down 20 percent in one year and 39 percent in two years. Still, the stock is up 128 percent in five years. Positional investors have earned 69 percent returns long term.
