India is moving closer to building its own space station by 2035. ISRO chairman Dr V Narayanan confirmed that the first module of the proposed Indian Space Station has been approved. The announcement came at the third National Space Day event in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
ISRO Confirms 2035 Space Station Target
Dr Narayanan made the statement during the National Space Day celebrations. He said the first module for the Indian Space Station has received formal approval. The nation now uses space-based applications across many fields. These services directly benefit ordinary citizens across the country. India started its space programme 64 years ago. It now serves people in more than 50 sectors through space technology.
India’s Space Sector Touches New Heights
Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted India’s space achievements on National Space Day. The country has completed 100 launches and placed 548 satellites in orbit. Puri said India’s space programme reflects scientific excellence and ambition. He cited Chandrayaan-1, Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1 as key milestones. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also stressed the government’s push for participation. He said privatisation has opened vast opportunities for India’s space science sector. The space sector now sees strong participation from youth and private startups.
PM Modi Backs Private Space Startups
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met founders and CEOs of 20 space startups on Friday. He said scientists who went abroad are now returning to India. The PM called India a potential global hub for the space sector. He praised startups for their innovation capacity. The CEO of Skyroot Aerospace said the company launched India’s first private rocket into orbit. It is the country’s first space technology unicorn. Space companies now aim for one launch every month by mid-2027. One CEO signed eight launch contracts last month, mostly from international clients. PM Modi assured the startups of full government support. He said India has the ability to offer affordable and quality technology to the world. The country has a strong talent base of scientists and technical experts. Indian youth have the natural ability to take risks and innovate.
