The International Cricket Council has awarded India the hosting rights for the first-ever ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027. The six-team T20 tournament will take place from February 14 to 28, 2027 across two venues in the country.
Tournament Shifts to India From Sri Lanka
The event was originally scheduled for Sri Lanka. However, the ICC moved it to India as Sri Lanka Cricket continues implementing reforms outlined during the ICC annual conference in July 2026. The ICC evaluated Bangladesh, India and South Africa as potential replacement hosts before recommending India. The ICC Board approved the decision on September 1, 2026.
Two Host Venues Confirmed
The Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium will host all matches. Both venues have strong infrastructure for international women’s cricket. The tournament will follow a T20 format with a round-robin league stage.
Six Top Teams to Compete
Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will participate in the tournament. All six teams will face each other in the league stage. The top two teams after the round-robin phase will qualify for the final on February 28, 2027.
Current Champions Add Prestige
India enters as the reigning ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup champion. Australia holds the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title after winning the tournament in England in July 2026. Both teams add significant star power to the event.
