AR Rahman, the Oscar-winning music composer who has ruled the Indian music industry for over three decades, is finally making his acting debut. His first film as an actor is titled Moonwalk, directed by Manoj NS and produced by Behindwoods Productions. The film is scheduled for release on Diwali 2026, placing it in direct competition with Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited Ramayana Part 1.
Moonwalk Brings Rahman and Prabhu Deva Together
Moonwalk features Prabhu Deva in the lead role alongside Rahman. Director Manoj NS confirmed that Rahman has a fun cameo appearance in the film. Behindwoods Productions announced the Diwali release date, promising audiences an experience filled with laughter and family moments.
AR Rahman Also Composes Music for Moonwalk
Apart from acting, Rahman has composed the full music album for Moonwalk. Three songs from the film – Yetu, Tinga and Macarena – have already been released and received strong audience response. The upcoming track Mayile will feature both AR Rahman and Prabhu Deva together on screen.
Yogi Babu to Play 16 Characters in One Film
In an unusual casting move, comedian Yogi Babu will portray 16 different characters in Moonwalk. The film also stars Aju Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, Satz, Nishma and Sushmitha in supporting roles.
Director Promises Family Entertainment This Diwali
Director Manoj NS, who is also the CEO of Behindwoods, described Moonwalk as a celebration of joy, laughter, music and dance. He said Diwali is a festival when families come together, and Moonwalk is designed to bring smiles to every face. The film will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.
Ramayana Part 1 Could Be Moonwalk’s Biggest Rival
Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Part 1 is also locked for a Diwali 2026 release. Trade analysts now predict a major box office clash between the two films. Moonwalk has a strong production team including cinematographer Anu V, choreographers Shekhar VJ and Piyush Shazia, production designer Shaanu, and costume designers Divya George and Shweta Raju.
