CARPL.ai has raised $10 million in a Series A round led by the International Finance Corporation, taking total funding to $16 million. The San Francisco-based healthtech firm, which has a significant India footprint, plans to scale its enterprise AI platform for medical imaging, build new products, and strengthen go-to-market and support teams across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.
Unified platform approach to clinical AI
The funding comes amid rising demand for practical, safe integration of artificial intelligence in hospital imaging workflows. CARPL.ai offers a single platform that integrates with existing radiology systems and provides access to more than 300 AI applications from over 100 developers—eliminating the need for hospitals to deploy and manage individual tools separately.
Founded with a focus on radiology, the company aims to extend into pathology, genomics, general medicine, and surgical robotics. CEO Dr Vidur Mahajan said the long-term vision is to provide hospitals with a secure, scalable backbone for deploying and governing AI across multiple clinical domains.
Regulatory clearances underpin this strategy. In May 2024, CARPL.ai obtained US FDA 510(k) clearance for its enterprise imaging platform and AI viewer. In October 2024, it became the first enterprise imaging AI platform to receive the European CE Mark, enabling compliant access to approved AI applications across European healthcare systems.
Adoption across public and private health systems
The platform is in use at 30 hospitals and medical centres worldwide, including government healthcare systems in India, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, and the UAE, as well as four of the world’s five largest private radiology groups.
In Singapore, public hospitals employ the platform to validate AI models against real-world clinical findings before clinical rollout. In Australia, Qscan Group has adopted CARPL.ai to support the National Lung Cancer Screening Program, while I-MED Radiology Network uses the platform to accelerate the safe introduction of new AI tools into practice.
In the UK and Ireland, Medica Group is piloting and evaluating AI applications prior to routine clinical use. CARPL.ai has also forged integrations with leading imaging software providers, allowing hospitals to plug AI capabilities into existing PACS and RIS environments without major system overhauls.
Early evidence on quality and safety
According to the company, its orchestration and validation framework can strengthen quality assurance. In one study, an AI reviewed 708 chest X-rays initially reported as normal; it flagged 46 potential abnormalities. Subsequent clinical review confirmed 12 significant missed findings, indicating how AI can complement radiologists while preserving clinician oversight.
Expanding market, intensifying competition
The radiology AI market is projected to grow rapidly as providers seek efficiency and diagnostic support. However, competition is deepening as established medical technology companies expand their AI portfolios and consolidate platforms through acquisitions.
For CARPL.ai, the opportunity lies in scaling hospital adoption and enlarging its partner ecosystem while continuously enhancing model governance, interoperability, and regulatory compliance. Industry experts expect AI to handle routine image analysis, enabling radiologists to focus on complex cases, multidisciplinary care, and patient engagement—provided platforms support safe deployment and clear accountability for clinical decisions.
