Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan 440 in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.29 lakh. The motorcycle marks 10 years of the Himalayan nameplate in the Indian market. It revives the accessible adventure-tourer formula that made the original Himalayan 411 a cult favourite. Bookings are open now, and the Himalayan 440 will be sold alongside the Himalayan 450 without replacing it.
Engine and Performance
The Himalayan 440 gets a new 443cc single-cylinder long-stroke engine. It produces 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. A new 6-speed gearbox with revised ratios handles power delivery. Lower ratios make slow-speed off-road riding easier, while sixth gear enables relaxed highway cruising.
Hardware and Suspension
The motorcycle rides on adventure-focused 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels. Ground clearance stands at 220mm, seat height is 800mm, and the fuel tank holds 15 litres. Braking comes from a 300mm front disc with a 2-piston floating caliper and a 240mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is standard and can be switched off for off-road use.
Frame and Chassis
The Himalayan 440 uses an upgraded half-duplex split-cradle frame. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic forks with 200mm travel at the front and a linkage-type monoshock with 180mm travel at the rear. Royal Enfield has also improved the motorcycle’s NVH levels for a smoother ride.
Features and Colours
The bike gets a digital-analog instrument cluster with Tripper navigation and USB Type-C charging. It replaces the original Himalayan’s distinctive multi-pod dashboard. Three new colour options are available: Sela Black, Mustang Brown, and Nelong White. Early production units feature a special 10-year anniversary badge on the fuel tank.
Accessories and Sales Milestone
Royal Enfield offers accessories such as hard panniers, a top box, touring seats, adventure handguards, engine guards, and protection accessories. Combined sales of the original Himalayan and the Himalayan 450 have crossed 3.2 lakh units worldwide. The Himalayan 440 is expected to build on that legacy with its accessible pricing and proven adventure credentials.
