Kia has showcased its first flex-fuel passenger car in India – the Syros Flex Fuel Vehicle concept. The SUV runs on 100 percent ethanol and marks Kia’s entry into alternative fuel technology for the Indian market. This concept model was unveiled as part of Kia’s push for eco-friendly and affordable fuel options across India.
Engine and Powertrain Upgrades
The Syros FFV features a 1.0-liter three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. Kia has upgraded the engine control unit, transmission control unit and the entire fuel system to handle different ethanol concentrations safely. The modifications prevent any damage to the engine from ethanol’s chemical properties. Instead of the regular 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, this model gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for better durability with ethanol fuel.
Design and Styling
The flex-fuel concept retains the regular Syros SUV design with no major exterior changes. It keeps the boxy and tall stance that gives it a distinct presence on the road. The SUV features muscular LED lighting, roof rails and sporty 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, signature L-shaped LED tail lights add to Kia’s recognizable design language.
Interior and Cabin Features
The cabin feels premium just like the standard Syros with Kia’s signature triple-screen setup on the dashboard. It includes a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster and a separate display for climate control. Physical buttons on the center console make it easy to operate while driving. The overall interior delivers a tech-savvy and high-tech feel.
India Focus and Future Plans
Kia is the second major carmaker after Maruti Suzuki to showcase a flex-fuel car in India. The Indian government is pushing for higher ethanol blending in petrol, making this technology highly relevant for the coming years. Flex-fuel technology allows cars to run on various ethanol-petrol mixtures. Kia has not yet announced the launch date, mileage, variants or pricing for the Syros FFV. The company is expected to reveal more details closer to the production launch.
