Anil Chakravarthy: From IIT BHU and MIT to Becoming Adobe’s New CEO – An Inspiring Success Story

Anil Chakravarthy, a Bengaluru-born technologist, has risen to become the new CEO of Adobe, the global software giant. His journey from classrooms in south Bengaluru to the top job at one of the world’s most influential tech companies is a story of relentless determination and academic excellence. Chakravarthy earned a BTech from IIT BHU and a master’s degree along with a PhD from MIT before leading multiple billion-dollar businesses.

Early Education in Bengaluru

Chakravarthy completed his early schooling at Sudarshan Vidya Mandir in Bengaluru. He then studied at Vijaya High School in Jayanagar. He completed his two years of pre-university education at National College in Basavanagudi. These institutions built the strong academic foundation that helped him reach the world’s top technology institutes.

IIT BHU and MIT Degrees

Chakravarthy earned a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT BHU) in Varanasi. He then went on to earn a master’s degree and a PhD in Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His academic credentials placed him among the most qualified leaders in the global tech industry.

Joining Adobe and Rising to the Top

Chakravarthy joined Adobe in January 2020 as executive vice president and general manager of the Digital Experience business. In September 2020, he took on additional responsibility for the company’s global sales operations. He currently serves as chairman of Adobe’s customer experience management business and global sales operations. He was leading services for large enterprise customers across all Adobe products including creativity and productivity tools.

Experience Before Adobe

Before joining Adobe, Chakravarthy served as CEO of Informatica from 2015 to 2020, a leading enterprise cloud data management company. He also held senior positions at Symantec, VeriSign, and McKinsey and Company, one of the world’s largest consulting firms. His career spans management consulting, cyber security, enterprise software, and cloud data management.
